Getting to know you and establishing a clear channel of communication is of utmost importance to me. That is why I invest a significant amount of time on you, right off the bat. A first office call typically lasts two hours and subsequent visits an hour to an hour and a half. This allows me to take the time to understand you, your health history, and your goals for your future, without either of us feeling like we are being rushed out the door. Getting to know you and understand your health helps me identify at which level your symptoms are originating, be it physical, mental, energetic, emotional, or spiritual, and create a personalized roadmap to improved vitality and wellbeing, just for you!
Understanding your diet, nutritional status, and eating habits is a vital part of your naturopathic assessment. We will dive into the wonderful world of diet to discover the healing properties of foods. We will look at what fuels you, what comforts you, and what you do and don’t digest well, in order to identify the foods that will bring you the most enjoyment and vitality. What is in your pantry and how can it serve you? Sparking a curiosity for food, finding joy in your relationship with food, and embracing the old adage “you are what you eat”, are all part of the journey. Deciding if or what nutrients are additionally needed is also part of supporting the optimal function of your body.
Create a flourishing life by creating flourishing relationships with yourself and the world around you. Part of growing in your health is connecting deeper with yourself and celebrating the SUPERPOWER within. Building a strong relationship with yourself allows you to see and utilize your super powers. Building a strong relationship with the outside world further strengthens these super powers. Together, we’ll look at and strengthen your relationships with nature, your mind, body, and spirit, as well as your home, work, and family. We’ll look at toxins into today’s world and effective ways to minimize your exposure and support your body through detox. We’ll look at household and body care products you use in order to minimize toxins and maximize effectiveness. Most importantly, we will get you and your environment working towards improved health.
Physical touch and connecting with the body is a critical part to health and wellness of your mind, body, and spirit. It can improve mood and sense of wellbeing, reduce pain, increase mobility, increase breathing capacity, improve posture, create a deeper connection with self, improve physical sensations, reduce stress, and increase vitality, to only name a few. That is why Dr. Goudy has studied and utilizes several different modalities of physical medicine and physical touch. This also allows for great individualized and unique care as each treatment is specially tailored to each individual. Some of the modalities used include massage, craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, Pantarei Approach, osteopathic manipulation, activator, and trigger point injections. Use of massage, craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation helps balance and restore the structure and function of different tissues, muscles, and organs in the body. Pantarei Approach, an approach Dr. Goudy studied in Germany, works with the body to tap into its resources, energy, and strengths in order to help the person overcome obstacles, gain new energy, obtain clarity of purpose, and embrace taking the lead in their life. Osteopathic manipulation and activator are two different techniques used to address misalignments and restrictions in our skeletal structure when needed. Furthermore, Dr. Goudy also uses trigger point injections to help release knots, retrain nerves, and improve fluidity of structures. What physical medicine modalities you will see will depend on what modalities best serve YOU!
Building a strong relationship with your plant allies can be a great tool in your health journey. Combining current day scientific research with traditional knowledge, we will employ nature’s medicine specifically for you. Different forms of botanical medicine include teas, tinctures, glycerites, lotions, salves, creams, pills, and other fun herbal concoctions! You will even be taught and encouraged to make your own herbal medicine if it so sparks your fancy!
Homeopathy is the use of minute amounts of non-toxic, natural substances to stimulate the healing ability within. It treats each person as a unique individual, working with the body to bring about healing. Originating in the 1700’s by Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy has been used worldwide for over 200 years and is recognized as the second largest therapy system in the world by the World Health Organization. The name homeopathy originates from the Greek translation “similar suffering”, referring to one of the two founding principles, “like cures like”. What symptoms a substance can cause, it can also cure. The second founding principle of homeopathy is that only the minimum dose should be used. Giving the minimum dose is a safe, gentle, and powerful way to stimulate the body’s vital response without producing gross side effects often seen with pharmaceuticals. Homeopathy is a successful system of medicine with a long history in helping people who suffer from symptoms of acute and chronic diseases.
Welcome to the wonderful world of water! Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic use of water of varying temperatures and varying applications in order to stimulate the healing power of the body. Water therapy is done in bathtubs, showers, hot springs, spas, or improvisation with water application and towels. It is one of the oldest forms of medicine, earning its popularity in the 18thCentury after Father Kneipp of Germany successfully treated himself with various hydrotherapy techniques, and still remains popular across the world today. Simple yet profound, this is one of my favorite modalities. You too will understand the power of hydrotherapy and feel its benefits as you explore what hydrotherapy can do for you and your health journey.
Taber’s Medical Dictionary defines vitalism as “the opinion that a force neither chemical nor mechanical is responsible for the phenomenon of life.” Here at Vis Foundations, we strongly believe in, honor, and revere the vital force, vis medicatrix naturae or as we short handedly refer to as “Vis”, in each and every person. Vital force is the primary force of all forces, coming from the great central source of all life. It is this force which permeates and animates the entire universe and is the expression of divine intelligence. It is this supreme intelligence and power, acting in and through every atom, molecule, and cell in the human body that is the true healer (Henry Lindlahr 1914).
Disease accordingly then is the phenomenon that strikes the whole organism and has its origins in the deviation of natural harmony. It is a clue to be honored, an expression of that individuals’ vitality, the wisdom of their body, not to be stamped out. This acknowledgment and respect of, empowers YOU, the true healer. Our one true mission, at Vis Foundations, is to inspire the Vis in you to facilitate and manifest cure.
“I have for many years thought about getting a massage every once in awhile to “relax and loosen up”. That’s all I did – just “thought about doing it”. Then – I was introduced to a wonderful Naturopathic Physician and Massage Therapist – Victoria Goudy. Victoria applies a holistic perspective to her practice. The result is that my chronic neck and back pain have gradually reduced. The combination of natural healing processes and therapeutic massage is truly a gift.”
